How about starting a new financial revlution within your own family. It has been said by a preacher that people buy things they don’t need with money they don’t have to impress people they don’t like.
That sums up what has been going on in America for the past twenty five years. Other families have been trying to keep up with the Jones just to find out they have refinanced.
The messages we teach to our children can have eternal impact. The Lord Jesus said Himself that a man’s life does not consist in his abundance of His possesions.
Our children are watching us and how we are reacting to the trying times that our country is going through right now. Take this time to make the commitment that you will surrender everything( I mean everything) to the Lordship of Jesus.
Commit to Him that you want to be a manager of what He has entrusted to you and not an owner.
For help on the above issues you may check out Crown Ministry website for many tools they have to help you allow the Lord to own all you have. It will sure take the pressure off.
Check back next week for some practical principles on teaching finances to your chidren.
As the big game approaches take this momentous opportunity to share with your children that there are much more important things to value then winning the big game. If your child is going to be watching the big game then you may want to point out some things to them. First of all let them know that the quarterback Kurt Warner loves Jesus and uses football to share the gospel with anyone he can.
Next share with them that one of the coaches for the Pittsburgh Steelers named Keith Butler played in the NFL for many years and now coaches for the Steelers. He is involved in the chapel program and want the players to know them most important thing is knowing Jesus.
Share with them also that Paul the apostle talked not about the Super Bowl Trophy but about followers of Jesus being trophies of His Grace. Share with your children that when the game is over it all starts over next summer for all teams to try and win that trophy. Tell them that once we receive Jesus we have the ultimate trophy. When our game called life is over our work is over and we receive our eternal reward called heaven.
Hope you go to church Sunday. May God bless you for taking your child to church.
Once again I want to welcome you to a New Year. It surely is a New Day at Judson Baptist Church and we want to say thanks for coming to Soul Summit.
What a challenge in the world of today to parent your children to understand that the Lord is watching over them and is concerned for them. With all of our news being about financial crisis, bailout scenarios, wars around the world it sure is easy to take our eyes of the Lord. The bible tells us that these same scenarios were going on in the old testament and the new testament and the needs were so similiar.
No matter what the situation, circumstance or event that you may be going through Jesus is still on the throne. Teach your children that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is going to take care of this children because He promises to. Take a look at Psalm 37 if you have any doubt. He commits to meet our needs and not our wants.
Trust the Lord and show your children you trust Him by talking to Him in their prescence, and by giving to His church, telling others about Jesus. Do not ever forget more is caught then taught.
Until next week, keep your eyes on Jesus.
Parents, We hope you had a great Christmas season and yes I did say Christmas. As we celebrated the birth of Christ now let’s endeavor to live like it matters for our life.
As you begin this new year remember that your children are observing what is important to you. Let me encourage you to take some time away from the hustle and bustle of the frenzied life and spend time each day in the Word of God. A fantastic plan that I found out about was to read the proverb for the date. Today I read Proverbs 5 as an example. Read five psalms for the day.
There are 150 psalms so take the date and multiply it by five and you have for today psalm 25. I then read that psalm and go to psalm 24,23,22,21.
It has changed my life. Then you can pick some new testament book and study it. It will help change you from the inside out. There is nothing you can give your child that is greater than a love for the Word of God.
Remember more is caught than taught when it comes to children.
See you Sunday
Pastor Jack
This week is a week to realize that there is much to be thankful for. Take time this week to tell the Lord you are thankful for the many blessings that He bestows upon us. Thank Him for sending Jesus to die for us so we can be reconciled to God.
The Bible reminds us to give thanks in all circumstances. We can only see the world as it happens around us, but the Lord sees the outcome of all that is taking place. Remember to thank Him that He is in control.
May He bless you with a Thankful heart this week.
As we head into the Thanksgiving holidays, try this for your children. Get a wipe board and write down on it at least one thing you are thankful for each day. Let everyone have a turn. Wipe it off each night, and begin again each morning.
Let this culminate with the Thanksgiving meal, and let each member of the family share what they are grateful for. You as parents, do not neglect to let your children know you are thankful for them as well. Setting the example for them will pay dividends in their futures.
This month in November, we study gratefulness. A great idea is for you as a parent take some time this week to write down at least ten things you are thankful for. A good friend told me that he does that every morning he can remember before his feet hit the floor.
We have so much to be grateful for, why not take the time to thank the Lord for it right now? You will be glad you did.
Romans 12:2 tells us that we should be transformed – or changed – by the renewing of our minds. As parents, it is imperative that we are spending time in God’s Word so He can change our minds about how we live our lives. I’ve heard it said again and again that as far as our children are concerned, more is caught than taught.
You want your child to love the Word of God? Then you must love it. You want your child to memorize scripture? Then you must memorize it. The list goes on and on. Your child watches you as you model for him or her what it is like to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
May God bless you as you endeavor to live out the life-changing message of Jesus Christ in front of your children.
What a beautiful time of year here in middle Tennessee. The leaves are now changing, and fall is in the air. Take this time to point out to your children the beauty that God has created.
Make an example by showing them the leaves and how they are all different, just like they are. Tell them what an awesome God we have that knew that we would enjoy the beauty of nature and that we would notice all the things He created. While riding in the car, play a game by seeing how many different things you can see that God created.
It is never to young to start teaching your children that we are not here by mistake, but rather God planned for us to be here. God bless you as you teach your children to worship the Creator and not the creation.
