For the month of January in Soul Summit, we studied the virtue of Resourcefulness. Our application tool was duct tape, and for every story you told us about your resourcefulness, we set aside 2 inches of it. We told you that if we got enough tape from your stories, we’d tape Mr. Phil to the wall at the end of this month. So, did you hear what happened???
Take a look…

Hee hee! I can’t wait until the end of the month!
Come on, parents! Look for those opportunities that your kids show being resourceful and let us know right here what they are doing!
2 inches of duct tape per story is frightening Mr. Phil, but your kids said on Sunday morning that they could show resourcefulness to you this month!
I found Seth R showing resourcefulness when he had to figure out by himself how to work his new Christmas gift of a Star Theater and find a room dark enough to try it out for the first time yesterday. He looked it over, figured out how it worked, plugged it in and brought me in my closet to show me the stars at 2:00pm!

Here’s another story…count out 2 more inches of duct tape for Mr. Phil!
I found Caleb R showing resourcefulness by cleaning up his room and closet before being asked so he could have the priviledge of using the computer after school. This took locating the train boxes that had been stashed away by his dad, the famous Mr. Phil, during the Christmas break in the attic. Caleb found them and began to put his trains in their boxes that had been all over his closet floor!

Paige showed resourcefulness by buying a pattern and material and learning to sew a dress with her grandmother. They spent $13.00 in total. Buying a dress at the store could cost $25-35. She saved money, learned a new talent, and most of all spent great quality time with her grandmother.

When we got home, the garage door wouldn’t open. Preston crawled under the garage door to press the button that opened the door. The problem was that the button was too high for him. Then he was resourceful. He used a broom handle to push the button because he couldn’t reach it.
That’s 2 more inches of duct tape!

Last Friday, Bailey thought it was Titans Day at School but we didn’t receive anything from school letting us know. So she wore a Titans shirt and then put a Standard School Attire Shirt over the Titans shirt so she wouldn’t be breaking dress code. Turns out it was Titans day so when she got to school she took the other one off and she got to wear her Titans shirt. How resourceful is that?
Oh and by the way, Bailey has experience. She’s duct taped the Principal to the wall last year.

I have another one that Bailey doesn’t know that I am sharing. To make a long story short, the car died Wednesday night and Randall had to come get us. I am thinking we have to get the car towed, I am going to have to make this big financial decision quickly and I don’t like that. On the way home, I ramble. Bailey grabs her Bible and says, “I am going to read the Bible, that is going to calm us all down.” Randall and I look at each, smile, laugh a little and relief. Randall fixed the car the next day when he could see. $19.48 at AutoZone. I feel that was a resourceful move by my baby. Cindy H.

Tyler and I were working on his Solar System project and we are discussing what color to paint all the planets with the paint that we already have at home… Tyler wanted to color Pluto purple but I did not have purple paint so I start making a list of things to buy, and Ethan says, “Mom, you have red and blue, and that will make purple!!!!” Okay, he was right and saved me a trip to the store and the cost of paint!!! Thanks for being resourceful, Ethan!!!

Caleb showed resourcefulness when he cooked Saturday morning breakfast for all of us and added extra eggs and another package of cinnamon rolls since his Granddaddy Neal is with us this weekend. He wanted to make sure there was enough food and he did it without asking anyone. I will add that it was a delicious way to show resourcefulness!

Seth R showed resourcefulness on Wednesday night after Awana. His Granddaddy Neal had just arrived for a visit and Seth immediately challenged him to a game of chess. The game was on and his granddaddy wasn’t giving him any moves…he was playing him hard and both are great chess players! For every move, Seth had to think ahead to what his granddaddy might move to and plan for it. Many times Seth would say with a twinkle in his eye, “I have a plan!” And Seth won!

Caleb showed resourcefulness when he had to tell his Granddaddy Neal how to get to church turn by turn because we took 2 vehicles. He had to remember the exits and stop lights and say it ahead of time so his granddaddy would have time to change lanes.
As a bonus, he took the opportunity to talk to his granddaddy about knowing Jesus as Savior on the way to church! All on his own…praise God!

Emma showed resourcefulness this morning when she made an “ice cream milkshake” out of the snowflakes. She gathered the snow from the picnic table, then went inside and added milk and sprinkles…and voila! Thankfully she decided also to let the birds have it since the picnic table was dirty! Resourcefulness at its best!

Emma helped me this week when we had to clean up the basement before an appraiser was coming over. She decided to put all of the old toys and stuff in boxes and then put it in the garage where it was out of the floor. She then moved boxes in the garage and it was all finished before he got here! Our garage may be a disaster, but the basement is nice and clean! Yee hoo…

Ian was playing firefighter yesterday, and he had his fire jacket and his fire hat, but no hose. So, he was resourceful and decided that his blue light saber would work just fine for a hose!

Emma was resourceful and made lunch for Ian last week. She had her own ideas of what she wanted to make and got all of her needed food supplies. She made him none other than a turkey, grape and carrot sandwich on wheat bread (only one slice)……YUM! Ian actually ate it too! I was relating to this past week’s skit

Ian was resourceful when he couldn’t find his boots this morning to go outside in the snow…he put on Emma’s….wrong feet and all, but it was his idea and they did work to keep his feet warm and dry!

Emma is very resourseful with modeling clay. Today (and lots of days), she takes a plain stick of clay and makes with it people, animals, flowers, etc. She then will play with her creations as toys! Who needs Barbies??

I tried to be resourceful and change the misspelling of “resourceful” in the prior post I just made, but couldn’t find a way to fix it…does that count????

Guice and I would like to share several comments about our son, Guice IV, a fourth grader at Judson. Guice has been very helpful since his little brother, Bing, was born. When Bing has cried, he has used his wits to make him happy again. I believe each tip should be counted as resourceful and would therefore add several feet to the wall display of Mr. Robertson. They are as follows:
1. Using his legs and hands to create drum rythyms to soothe Bing.
2. Singing songs to make his brother happy.
3. Holding Bing’s hand to make him feel secure.
4. Helping his mommy by suggesting what may be wrong with Bing such as “He needs his diaper changed”, “He is hungry”, “He wants his big brother” or “He is sleepy”
5. Turning on the radio when Bing is crying because he likes music.
6. Reading to his little brother.
Thanks for seeking input from parents. Have a great day!

Andrew showed resourcefullness when doing his chores yesterday~!
He carried more than he could hold to put things where they belong. He only had to make a couple trips, instead of putting things away one at a time.

Austin showed resourcefullness when playing yesterday! One of his new toys came with a part that would not quite stay together. So, he asked for a piece of tape. And whola! That made it work just fine. I praised him for being resourcefull!

I saw Wilson being resourcefull with his brother Andrew by helping him play football in the Awana playroom. Wilson was showing his sad brother, who was jealous Wilson was playing with someone else, how to be a part of the game and play football correctly! For those of you with sibbllings, you know it is wonderful when they help each other out instead of fighting! Wilson helped and was resourceful without being asked! Mom loves you!

Wednesday night after church the Cordells and Heltons went to Las Palmas for dinner. Oliver spilled ice water all over his clothes, instead of having to leave and go home, he and Ian were able to use their resourcefulness by taking the extra clothes off Ian (since it was sports night he had a Celtics jersey over his regular clothes) and put them on Oliver. Since this involves TWO Soul “Summitters” does that mean FOUR inches of tape for Mr. Phil??

Charlie H showed resourcefulness the other day when he wanted some milk. He asked me to help him get it, and while I was busy in the other room, he took it upon himself to get out his own glass, get out the milk, pour what little was left into his cup. That not being enough to satisfy, he got another jug of milk and emptied it out as well. When I arrived in the kitchen he was sitting there enjoying the glass of milk he poured for himself!

Maddie H showed resourcefulness on Thursday evening when we went to Baja Fresh for dinner. As we were at the counter completing our order, she took it upon herself to choose our table. When she realized it had only 3 chairs, she politely asked the man at the table next to her if he was using his extra chairs. She took one of his chairs and had the table all ready for us when we completed our transaction.

Here we are in November and my kids still LOVE to watch Mr. Phil, who by the way is famous at our house, get chased and taped by Pastor Jack. My kids even show this video to everyone who comes to our house. We LOVE Soul Summit and even more how God is using Soul Summit! Thanks Soul Summit volunteers!
